Discussion

This was a cleaning spit around the elsan pit, excavated as the digging of the pit had revealed a Grubenhaus (002CB00089). The material removed was a sandy loam, although a windblown sand component was also present (Munsell colour 10YR 3/6). The spit defined the position of 2 Grubenhäuser (002CB00089 and 002CB01272), as well as the eastern post holes of structure 002CB000100. Finds included a Roman coin (Constantine II - AD 323-324).
