Discussion

This was one of seven gridded spits (with 002CB00012, 002CB00021, 002CB00024, 002CB00037, 002CB00039 and 002CB00040), excavated (by trowel in 1986) to clean the buried soils on the southern edge of the gravel fan. The material removed was a loamy sand (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3). The finds from this area were erroneously lifted under spit 002CB00002, which was originally issued as the master number for all seven of the gridded spits.
