Discussion

This spit, located immediately to the north of spit 012AC00018, was excavated in an attempt to define the northern continuation of ditch 012AC00052. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3). It was demonstrated that ditch 012AC00052 did not continue in this direction. However, the spit did uncover the termini of seven ditches; these being the southern terminus of ditch 012AC09501, the eastern termini of ditches 012AC07211 and 012AC09502, and the western termini of ditches 012AC00114, 012AC00099, 012AB07194 and 012AB07198. The finds were in a general scatter where the ditches terminated, and could not be assigned to individual ditch segments.
