Discussion

The spit was excavated to define an amorphous area in the eastern-central part of area 12AC. The northern parts of pit 012AC00054 and north-south aligned ditch 012AC00052 were defined, as well as the western terminus of east-west aligned ditch 012AC00056. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). The finds were clustered in the northern part of ditch 012AC00052.
