Discussion

The spit was excavated in an attempt to define two ditches, at a point where definition between them was poor. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3). The spit helped to define pit 012AC00189 and ditches 012AC00035 and 012AC09502. The objects were predominantly from above the southern ditch (012AC09502), while the animal bones were mainly above the northern ditch (012AC00035).
