Discussion

This spit was rapidly excavated to get a section through the sequence of north-south aligned ditches in the eastern-central part of area 12AC. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell clour 10YR 4/3). The spit removed material from 3 three ditches (012AC00047, 012AC07209) and 012AC09501), and was in effect a box section acrross these features. A single object (a Niedermendig lava fragment), was found within the central ditch 012AC07209.
