Discussion

This was a small patch of buried soil (excavated in two spits, with this being the lower spit and 002DB00044 the upper), situated in the south-eastern corner of Area 2DB. The material removed was a sandy silty loam, (Munsell colour 10YR 3/4), although it was of a slightly mottled appearance. The deposit was 9cm deep in total. There was a moderate occurrence of both rounded and angular chalk inclusions. Only a single Roman pot sherd was found, with a scattering of animal bones.
