Discussion

This was a small patch of buried soil (excavated in two spits, with this being the upper spit and 002DB00048 the lower), situated in the south-eastern corner of Area 2DB. The material removed was a sandy silty loam, (Munsell colour 10YR 3/4), although it was of a slightly mottled appearance. The pottery recovered included six Roman sherds, a post-Roman sherd and two Medieval sherds, along with a clay pipe stem.
