Discussion

This was a spit to the north of spit 002DB00079, encmpassing a patchy area of the Medieval headland. The feature is not as clear here as it is in the south, as the subsoil has changed from chalk to sand. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3). Once again (as in spit 002DB00002 above) , a high density of objects and animal bones was recovered. In this case, a cluster of animal bones can be seen over the feature 002DB00142.
