Discussion

This was an area of secondary machine clearance. Once again, as in machine clearance 002DB00001 above, a high density of finds and animal bones were recovered, due to the presence of a surviving medieval headland, which served to protect the underlying archaeological landscape. Finds included one of only three Medieval coins found across the entire excavation area (a silver penny of Edward I, 1279-1307).
