Discussion
This was the initial removal of the buried soil to the east of the stream
channel in area 2CA. It was the same deposit as that to the east, excavated
as 002CB00890. The material removed
was a sandy loam, with chalk inclusions <4cm throughout (although in
a higher density in the upper 10-15cm of the deposit). A large number of
finds were recovered, ranging in date from the Neolithic to the Anglian
period (including part of an Anglian wrist clasp and an Anglian iron key).
Further spits of this material were excavated (002CA00891,
002CA00892
and 002CA00893).
