Discussion

This was a semi-arbitrary spit, located in the north-eastern corner of the stream channel excavation 002CA00982. It was bounded in the north by the edge of the excavation, in the south by a baulk and on the west by gully 002CA01046. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with a high chalk gravel inclusion rate. It helped to define the southern half of pit 002CA00829. Finds included one Romano-British pot sherd and one Anglian sherd.
