Discussion

This was the northernmost of 2 spits, extending out to the north from the wall line of structure 012AF07215. They were excavated to test for the presence of structural material relating to the terracing of the area, either prior to, or as a part of the construction phase of the structure. The removal of this material (a sandy clay loam hillwash) revealed a sandy loam mixed with chalk rubble. Finds included 29 Roman sherds and a charcoal sample.
