Discussion

This was the westernmost of 3 spits (with 012AF00101 and 012AF00102) extending eastwards from the western chalk edge of the dry valley. The material was a light-coloured (Munsell 10YR 5/3) silty clay. Patches of charcoal were noted. Towards the eastern end, a layer of orange coloured sand appeared, containing 20% chalk gravel inclusions. No features were defined. Finds included two fragments of mortared chalk.
