Discussion

This was a spit excavated to take the hillwash down to a flat plane, in an effort to define what appeared to be a rectangular structure Click here to see the geophysical data for Area 12AF  in the high resolution geophysical data. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell 10YR 4/4). Finds were predomintly later Roman pottery (46 out of 46 sherds), although other finds included calcite, an iron nail, a glass fragment and part of a worked chalk bowl or mould.

The area was never fully excavated, although tantalising hints were uncovered (see 012AF00125 for further details)
