Discussion

This spit was located immediately to the east of spits 012AG00035 and 012AG00036, although due to finds density this section was excavated as two spits, the first being 012AG00038. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2). All 59 of the pot sherds found were later Roman in date. Also found were four brick or tile fragments and six iron nails. The ditch 012AG00041 and the pit 012AG00047 were defined by this spit.
