Discussion

This spit was located immediately to the east of spits 012AG00035 and 012AG00036, although due to finds density this spit was stopped after 15cm, and then continued as 012AG00042. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2). All 24 of the pot sherds found were later Roman in date. Also found were ten brick or tile fragments and three iron nails. The ditch 012AG00041 was partly defined by this spit.
