Discussion

This was the first spit taken over the central part of the trench, over what developed into an extremely deep feature (012AG00034) . The material removed appeared to be a hillwash event, a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). All of the pottery found could be dated to the later Roman period, apart from a single samian sherd.
