Discussion

This spit was shovel-scraped across the machined area immediately to the south of area 12AD. The material removed was generally a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/4). The vast majority (99.51%) of the pottery found was Roman in date (405 out of 407 sherds). A much higher density of material was recovered from the centre of the dry valley.
