Discussion

This was the the westernmost of five spits (with 002CA00770, 002CA00771, 002CA00772 and 002CA00773) removing the last remaining layers of the loamy buried soil 002CA00080, at the beginning of the 1988 excavation season. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). Very few objects and no animal bones were recovered, a total contrast to all of the other spits across the buried soil. The spit finally defined a sequence of gullies (002CA01016, 002CA01018 and 002CA01128), although they were never very clearly visible on the ground, as well as Grubenhaus 002CA00797.
