Discussion

This was a spit across an area which encompassed a dark buried soil deposit (011CD05435). The material removed (by shovel-scraping and then trowelling) was generally a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3), with darker material (7.5YR 3/2) also noted. The finds included six flints and a sherd of Beaker pottery, although three sherds of Romano-British pottery were also found.
