Discussion

This was a sub-rectangular spit, located on the eastern central edge of area 11CD, taken up to the point where the 8000 context numbers began (that is, the waterlogged area around the spring). The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3). The only finds were two limestone quern fragments. A number of ditches, pits and post holes were defined by the excavation of this spit.
