Discussion

This was an unusually shaped spit, excavated to identify features in an area where definition remained elusive. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). It defined a number of features, including the semi-circular slot 011CD05379, and a line of chalk packing stones, probably part of a fence slot 011CD07092. The only find was a Middle Saxon copper alloy pin, which was located immediately above the line of the fence slot.
