Discussion

This was one of five layers (with 011BD01582, 011BD01583, 011BD01585 and 011BD01684) in an excavated section to the west of the spring pool. This deposit was a dark sandy clay (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2) with 65% small chalk gravel inclusions. The only objects found were two late Roman pot sherds, a sandstone fragment and a small lump of slag. Twenty-eight animal bones were recovered (17 cattle, 7 sheep/goat, 2 pig and 2 horse). The layer partly overly enclosure ditches 011CD07112 and 011CD07114.
