Discussion

This was one of five layers (with 011BD01582, 011BD01584, 011BD01585 and 011BD01684) in an excavated section to the west of the spring pool. This deposit was a sandy clay (no Munsell colour was recorded). The only objects found were two flint flakes and a sherd of a Huntcliffe ware bowl. Thiry-six animal bones were recovered (19 cattle, 14 sheep/goat, 2 pig and 1 goose). All of the dimensions were for the small area excavated before it became evident that this was the earliest of the five layers.
