Discussion

This spit was to define the north-south aligned ditches in the centre of area 11CE. Due to the prevailing dry conditions, the area was initially forked and shovelled, before trowelling. The spit defined a number of features, which included enclosure ditches 011CE00532, 011CE00654 and 011CE00710, post holes 011CE00662 and 011CE00970, slots 011CE00664 and 011CE00670, and pits 011CE00701, 011CE00722 and 011CE00725. All but one of the finds (a sherd of Roman grey ware) were from above the ditch 011CE00654 and pits 011CE00701, 011CE00722 and 011CE00725. These included an Anglian knife blade and a horse mandible.
