Discussion

This was the third spit (beneath 011CE00571) in the triangular section in the southern central part of area 11CE, located next to the baulk which separated areas 11CE and 11CD (to the south). It did not stretch over the whole area of the triangle, as the outermost ditches were now well-defined. It was excavated to try and define the sequence of the central ditches. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3). A further spit (011CE00616) was required to fully define the features.
