Discussion

This was the second (beneath spit 011CE00533) of a number of spits in a triangular section, excavated to establish the profile of the sequence of enclosure ditches. It was located in the southern central part of area 11CE, against the baulk which separated area 11CE from 11CD to the south. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). Four ditches were defined by this spit; 011CE00620, 011CE00630, 011CE00643 and 011CE00770. However, further defining spits were still required across specific ditch intersections.
