Discussion

This was a triangular cleaning spit, located in the extreme south-western corner of the area. It was given a different spit number (as oppposed to 011CE00500) beacause a different excavation technique was adopted here (shovel-scraped in 10cm spits). The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). The finds included seven flint objects (blades and flakes) and one beaker sherd. Two further spits were later excavated (011CE00502 and 011CE00505).
