Discussion

This was the first cleaning spit (in 1991) over an area in the south-eastern part of area 11BD. It was lightly trowelled and the brushed to remove the dust and detritus which had accumulated over the winter, as well as to lift the finds which had weathered out. The material removed was a sandy silyt loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). The finds and animal bones were clustered in the south-west quadrant of the excavated area. They included teo copper alloy pins, a fired clay loomweight, fifteen iron objects, and a strip of lead.
