Discussion

An amorphously shaped area on the western chalk edge of the dry valley was originally thought to be a Grubenhaus, and was excavated in quadrants. This was a spit over the south-east quadrant. The "Grubenhaus"  turned out to be a number of different features, and the finds from this spit was primarily from above the south east segment of pit 012AD05482 and from ditch 012AD07213. The material removed was a silty clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). This spit was located immediately to the north-east of spit 012AD05485.
