Discussion

This was a sub-rectangular spit, excavated (by shovel-scraping) to define the features cut into chalk on the western edge of the dry valley. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 3/3). Two copper alloy pins were among the finds. The spit defined pits 012AD05482, 012AD05554 and part of ditch 012AD07213.
