Discussion

An amorphously shaped area on the western chalk edge of the dry valley was originally thought to be a Grubenhaus, and was excavated in quadrants. This was a spit over the north-west quadrant. The "Grubenhaus"  turned out to be a number of different features, and the finds from this spit was primarily from above pit 012AD05554. The material removed was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3) with 10-15% chalk inclusions (hillwash).
