Discussion

This was a small, rectangular spit, excavated to define features between the chalk at the western edge of the dry valley and pit 012AD05408. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). No features were defined by this spit. Although most of the finds were of later Roman pot sherds, the find of a Middle Saxon sherd is of note.
