The matrix diagram above shows an extract of the spits and layers from this section of Area 11AD indicating their relationships to each other. Click on the spit number which you wish to see in more detail. The bold, flashing (Netscape browser only) context indicates the current catalogue entry. The numbers enclosed in grey include all of the spits from the waterlogged area around the spring, although they are dealt with as individual entries. If you wish to see the full spit matrix for areas 11AD (1990), 11BD (1991) and 11CD (1992), then click here.

Discussion

This was a gravelly chalk layer (Munsell colour 10YR 8/1), sealed by 011AD00065, in one of the four sections excavated to the south-west of the spring pool.  It remained unexcavated during the 1990 season. This layer probably equals layers 011AD00070, 011AD00084 and 011AD00087, all found in the bases of the other three sections. There were no finds.
