Discussion

This was a small, L-shaped spit, excvated to define some amorphously shaped features on the chalk at the western edge of the dry valley. It defined two quarry pits (012AD05238 and 012AD05164), which were part of a group of quarry pits excavated in the vicinity. The material removed was a sandy silty loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3).
