Generally, the fill of the ditch was a fairly uniform sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/2), with around 5% chalk inclusions. The chalk inclusion rate changed markedly depending on the parent material into which the ditch was cut, so that the segments cut into chalk (i.e. 012AD00708, contained up to 30% chalk inclusions. The only real difference in colour and in texture occurred in ditch segment 012AD00518, where the fill was an orangey (Munsell 7.5YR 3/2) sandy silty loam, with 5-10% chalk inclusions. Daub and charcoal flecking was noticed only in the northern segments, with the southern part of the ditch (012AD00483 and 012AD00708) having none. Only the northern segments showed evidence of a different primary fill (012AD00654 and 012AD00781), both of which appeared very similar to hillwash material. In addition, a context classified as a layer (012AD00237), seems more likely to have been the final fill of the northernmost segment.
Two groups of stone (012AD00563 and 012AD00564) were found near the terminus of segment 012AD00592, above fill 012AD00593. It is possible that they may have been post packing, although no post holes were recorded in this segment. A post hole (012AD00656) was found near the north-eastern terminus, although whether it was associated with this enclosure or post-dated it was not established.
The animal species were, as is usual for the southern enclosure systems, dominated by cattle (50%) and sheep/goat (38%). Only 4.6% of the bones recovered were pig.
