Discussion

This was a rectangular spit just to the east of the western edge of the dry valley, removed to define the north-south ditches. The material was generally a sandy loam (Munsell colour varying from 10YR 4/3 to 10YR 4/2), with 5% chalk inclusions. Charcoal and daub flecking was noted in places. In the event, further definition was required, and another spit (012AD08446) was excavated.
