Phasing

The fill contained two Roman pot sherds, together with a single Anglian sherd. It could be either Anglian or Middle Saxon in date, one phase of a number of redefinitions of the southern half of a large rectangular enclosure.

Discussion

A curvilinear ditch aligned east/west and forming the southern boundary of an enclosure. The ditch was replaced and cut by 012AC00041 on the same alignment but to the south of 012AC00033.  Two further ditches on the same alignment (012AC00035 and 012AC09502) lie to the south, each forming different phases of the same enclosure. The ditch may link with 012AC00335, 012AC000337 or possibly 012AC00373 to form the western limit of the enclosure and ditch 012AC09500 to the east.
