Characterising the Landscape: Methodology
The Project has employed a range of different scientific techniques. The scale of the geophysical survey is unparalleled in an archaeological context. The topographic and auger surveys have employed leading edge technology and novel software solutions to mapping the subsurface deposits. The sampling and observation trenches applied experimental techniques in topsoil sampling and assessed the potential of rapid observation trenches for site assessment. Field recording employed the LRC recording system using Handspring and Palm handheld computers, 2004 being the twentieth year since the LRC transferred all field recording onto handheld devices.
