Discussion

This was one of a number of rectangular spits excavated to define the sequence of north-south aligned ditches at the interface between the chalk and the eastern edge of the dry valley. Spit 012AD00602 was located immediately to the north and spit 012AD00608 to the south. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2) with 10% chalk inclusions, and no daub or charcoal flecking.
