Discussion

This was one of a number of rectangular spits excavated to define the sequence of north-south aligned ditches at the interface between the chalk and the eastern edge of the dry valley. Spit 012AD00607 was located immediately to the north. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/2) with 10% chalk inclusions, and no daub or charcoal flecking.
