Discussion

This small, rectangular spit (like spit 012AD06080 to the west) was excavated in order to locate a possible pit (indicated as an anomaly by the high resolution geophysics). Only four post holes were defined by the removal of this material, which was a sandy clay loam (Munsell colour 10YR 4/3). It is probable that this was the remains of a buried soil. The finds were prdominantly late Roman pot sherds, as well as some tile fragments. No further excavation of this material was carried out.
