Discussion

A large, ovate pit in central 12AB. This is one of the latest events in the vicinity, stratigraphically later than numerous features (ditches 012AB07192, 012AB07195, 012AB00134, 012AB00242 and 012AB00991 and Grubenhaus 012AB07004). It is probably associated with similar but smaller pit 012AB00686 to the south. Both pit fills were dark and silty, rich in charcoal inclusions. The dating of the material from the pit is inconclusive, if it is contemporary with pit 012AB00686 then it is almost certainly Anglian in date, possibly Middle Saxon as both pits cut through the Early Saxon Grubenhaus.
