Discussion

This was the first spit (equal to the material in spit 011AD00047) of a silty clay layer (Munsell 10YR 3/3), excavated across the waterlogged area to the west of the spring pool. It was sealed by the sandy layer 011AD00055. At this level, no waterlogged material was recovered. Finds included an iron strip, three sherds of Roman pottery and 2 fragments of Niedermendig lava. No animal bones were recovered.
