Discussion

This was the first cleaning spit (by trowelling back) in the central part of area 11AD, excavated to remove the lumps left by machining in this area. The majority of finds came from within the large square enclosure 011CD20017 and from above Grubenhaus 011CD20016, although, as the context numbers indicate, neither of these features were defined until many further spits were excavated. The material removed varied from a loamy sand to a sandy loam (generally Munsell colour 10YR 4/3).
