Discussion

This was the second cleaning (by trowelling back) spit (under 011AD00021) in the south-east corner of the main area. It was excavated to remove any remaining lumps (which had not been removed by the previous spit). These were generally in the western half of the spit, thus the finds distribution appears skewed. The material removed varied from a loamy sand to a sandy loam (Munsell colour generally 10YR 4/3). Finds included two copper alloy pins, quite a high density of pot sherds (mainly Roman with some Anglian), a bone pin and a toth from a bone comb.
