Phasing

No diagnostic finds were recovered from the feature. Stratigraphically, it cut through ditch 012AD00013 and was cut by ditch 012AD00335. Although not directly linked, it may be part of a segmented ditch enclosure (like 012AD01006 to the west), with segments 012AD00528 to the west and 012AD00011 to the east. If this is the case, it is probably later (i.e. Middle Saxon in date), although 012AD00528 is different in a number of ways.

Discussion

A short, wide ditch segment, filled with sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/2) containing 5-10% chalk inclusions. No daub or charcoal flecking was noted. Only a single fragment of daub and two cattle bones were recovered from the feature.

The ditch was cut into chalk with a wide, flat-based V profile, and was severely plough truncated.
