Phasing

No diagnostic material was recovered from the ditch. However, association with the other segments of enclosure to the south and east indicate at least an Anglian (possibly Middle Saxon) date for this enclosure.

Discussion

A curvilinear enclosure ditch aligned north-west/south-east and forming the southern boundary of an enclosure to the north. Further ditches on a similar alignment lie to the north (012AC00033 and 012AC07211) and to the south (012AC09502) This ditch appears to be part of a sequence with 012AC00337 and the short segment 012AC00356 which form different phases of the same enclosure system.

The ditch fill was a sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3), with occasional chalk inclusions. Daub flecking was noted. It was cut into chalk with a U-shaped profile.
