Discussion
This was an exceptionally shallow pit, located on the northern edge of
the turf-filled depression 012AC09503.
Its single fill (012AC00149) was a sandy loam (Munsell
colour 10YR 3/3), with very few chalk inclusions. The fill was virtually
indistinguishable from the material making up layer
012AC00094,
one of the upper layers in the turf-filled
depression immediately to the south. Only animal bones were recovered,
although some larger chalk fragments were deemed to be residual (derived
from the pebble surface).
The pit was cut down through part of surface 012AC00022
into chalk natural, with a shallow V-shaped profile.
